Compliments and Pick Up Lines in Spanish

Learn to say these phrases before you go to Spain or Latin America

South African Flag

Spanish, being a romance language, has many very romantic phrases you can use to at least get the attention of the opposite sex. These are also known as piropos, and they are ways to compliment. This page is just an intro, so if you really want to get a great book on Spanish Pickup Lines, then buy the book Making Out In Spanish. This is the only real authority on pickup lines in this language.

If you've not been to Spain before, you should consider getting a Travel Guide for Spain. Lonely Planet has a very good one.

Because Spanish is such a widely used language, we will skip past the small and go straight to the phrases.

A few things to remember:
The letter "D" has a "the" sound as in The.
The double L, "ll" is pronounced like the English letter "Y", as in "you".
They roll their R's, as do many similar languages.
The letter "H" is not very well pronounced.
They have an "ñ", which is called an "N-yay". In English it is like making a "nyuh-". It is somewhat difficult to explain, so just give it your best college try. Although in writing, as in speech this differentiation between "n" and "ñ" can make a huge difference. Even the difference between words seemingly as simple as "año" and "ano"... Very different.

And most importantly, this is by no means the definitive guide to Spanish speaking and phrases, nor are the phonetics official. It is just how I hear them and how I can best describe.
