National Holidays and Independence Days Celebrated Around the World in October

Around the world people like to celebrate and there's no better occasion than a national holiday. Here is a list of countries who will be celebrating their national holiday in the month of October.

Austria – October 26. National Day in Austria is the anniversary of the passage of the law of permanent neutrality. In Austria you will find it is a perfect day to go out and walk around. You will find that while the stores are closed the parliament buildings and museums are open and free to the public.

China – October 1. The founding of the Peoples Republic of China is celebrated on this day. You will find a grand military parade and speeches and other government organized events. And of course they have fireworks.

Cyprus – October 1. Cyprus celebrates the anniversary of its independence from Great Britain after a 5 year battle in 1960. They celebrate with parades, and parties, while most stores and school are closed for this holiday.

Czech Republic – October 28. While Czechoslovakia doesn't exist any more, the Czech republic still considers October 28 its founding day.

Fiji - Second Monday of October. Find Fiji celebrating the anniversary of their independence from Colonial Britain's rule. They have celebrations in the capital with each year having a new theme. It is a week long celebration.

Germany – October 3. Unity Day is celebrated in Germany to commemorate the reunification of Germany. Each year a celebration is held in a different state capital.

Nigeria – October 1. National Day is celebrated with a presidential speech and a flag raising. You can also find parades throughout the many states in the country.

Spain – October 12. National Day in Spain is celebrated to commemorate the day Columbus first stepped foot on the Americas. On this day government building, schools and many businesses are closed. In Madrid they have a major military parade.

Taiwan – October 10. Taiwan recognizes this, the anniversary of the Chinese Revolution. They didn't have parades for many years as they considered it a cold war like as they moved to maintain ties with China. They do currently have parades in the capital of Taipei in front of the presidential office building. Into the night a grand fireworks display happens, which is the highlight of the day.

Turkey – October 29. Republic Day in Turkey is a yearly event that commemorates the first prime minister of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Events happen throughout the country and include traditional food, parades and wearing the national colors.

Uganda – October 9. Celebrating National Day, Uganda has its celebrations at the Kololo ceremonial grounds. The event is attended by regional dignitaries.

Zambia – October 24. Marking the celebration from British rule, Zambia has a large parade in the capital city of Lusaka.
